HISTORY

Northeast Christian Academy began in the winter of 1992 with a group of concerned parents from several Bible-believing churches in the Kingwood, Humble, and Atascocita areas that began meeting together with the hopes of beginning a private Christian school in Northeast Houston. On April 17, 1992, Northeast Christian Academy was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization. The doors of the school officially opened in August of 1993 with twenty-three students in grades six, seven, and eight. Classes were held at non-denominational church in Kingwood.

During that first school year a group of parents of elementary school students met with the Board of Trustees to request that NCA add elementary grades. After much prayer, Northeast Christian Academy opened the 1994-1995 school year with one class of each level from three-year-old preschool through grade nine. One additional upper school grade was added each year thereafter.
Beginning with the 1996-1997 academic year, the school relocated to the current Hamblen Road location. Just one year later, the school was accredited by ACSI and we graduated our first senior class of seven students May, 1998.

Through the years, Northeast Christian Academy committed to a Classical Liberal Arts curriculum which includes Logic, Senior Rhetoric, and a robust Upper School Humanities course sequence. We adopted a Socratic teaching method in our Humanities courses and implemented the Thayer method in our math classes – each of which fosters a classroom culture that is more engaged, interactive, and dynamic.

As our identity developed in accordance with our Christian, classical and college-preparatory vision, we examined how we could more effectively and consistently reflect this identity. Ultimately, we determined that a new name would be an appropriate step forward. After a great deal of discussion and research, we determined that The Covenant Preparatory School accomplished our objectives. Northeast Christian Academy officially became The Covenant Preparatory School, in August, 2015.

The word covenant is deep and rich in biblical meaning and imagery. Going back to the Old Testament, even beginning in the Garden of Eden when God clothed Adam and Eve, covenant meant “a solemn vow sealed through sacrifice.” The concept of covenant is most certainly the “red thread” of continuity uniting both the Old Testament and the New, ultimately finding its fulfillment in the finished work of Jesus Christ. The color of crimson serves as a constant reminder to our students, faculty, parents, and community that as Christians we were bought with a price. We believe that the color of crimson and the mascot of the Knight allow us to more consistently influence the lives of our students in accordance with a distinct school culture.

Along with our Knight mascot, we adopted the Knights Code penned by Alfred Lord Tennyson. It is our prayer that our students internalize and embody the eternal truth of these words:

Follow Christ the King
Live Pure
Speak True
Right Wrong
If not to live out these ideals, why else was I born?

We believe our identity is rich in symbolism and allows us to cultivate the image of God through all aspects of student life in the classrooms, athletic arenas, and hallways of our school. This identity allows us to declare that we serve our God and King through a life of sacrificial service as Knights in covenant with our Lord and each other.

As we move forward, we recognize that with this growth will come change and challenges. Yet, with these challenges come tremendous opportunities for growth. We look forward to many years of success as we grow into the great school which God has called us to be.
